What is annular ligaments?

Annular ligaments are a type of ligament found in the body that form a ring shape around certain joints. There are several annular ligaments in the body, including those found in the wrist, elbow, and ankle. These ligaments help to stabilize the joint and prevent dislocation or hyperextension.

In the wrist, the annular ligaments are located around the distal radioulnar joint. They help to keep the radius bone in place and prevent it from rotating too much. In the elbow, the annular ligament is located around the head of the radius bone and helps keep it in place while the arm is in motion. In the ankle, the annular ligament goes around the talus bone and helps to keep the ankle stable during movement.

If an annular ligament becomes damaged or torn, it can cause pain and instability in the joint. Treatment options for annular ligament injuries depend on the severity of the injury and can range from rest and physical therapy to surgical intervention.
